THE EFFECT OF LOCAL X-IRRADIATION ON THE P32-UPTAKE RATE OF RAT¢¥S FEMUR

Abstract
Local X-irradiation of 900r. was induced on the
one side of albino rat¢¥s femur while the whole body including the other side of the femur of the rat was carefully shielded and the both femurs were removedat 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours after local X-irradiation.
Immediately after the X-irradiation the P^(32) was administered intraperitoneally and P^(32)-uptake rate was determined by measurement of P^(32) radioactivityon both the X-irradiated and non-irradiatrd femur.
The P^(32)-uptake rate of locally irradiated femurs was compared with that of the non-irradiated control femurs.
The results obtained were as follows :
1) The P^(32)-uptake rate of femur in the control group increased very rapidly within few hours and displayed peak level at 12 hours after administration of P^(32) and thereafter decreased rather slowly until 24 hours.
2) The P^(32)-uptake rate of X-irradiated femur was significantly lower than that of the control group throughout the whole experimental Period.
3) The P^(32)-uptake rate of the non-irradiated femur of X-irradiated group showed higher values than the irradiated femur but significantly lower than the control group.
4) There are some evidences of abscopal effect in non-irradiated femur of locally irradiated rats. comparing with the X-irradiated femur.
